Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) affects anti-oxidant capacity, DNA repair genes expression and apoptosis in pregnant mouse placenta

چکیده مقاله:
Objective(s): The placenta provides nutrients and oxygen to embryo and removes waste products from embryo’s blood. As far as we know, the effects of exposure to Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) signals on placenta have not been evaluated. Hence, we examined the effect of prenatal exposure to Wi-Fi signals on anti-oxidant capacity, expressions of CDKNA1, and GADD45a as well as apoptosis in placenta and pregnancy outcome. Materials and Methods: Pregnant mice were exposed to Wi-Fi signal (2.4 GHz) for 2 and 4 hr. Placenta tissues were examined to measure the MDA and SOD levels. To measure SOD, CDKNA1, GADD45a, Bax, and Bcl-2 expressions were compared by real-time PCR analysis. TUNEL assay was used to assess apoptosis in placenta tissues. The results were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Prism version 6.0 software. Results: MDA and SOD levels had significantly increased in exposed Wi-Fi signal groups (P-value< 0.05). Also, quantitative PCR experiment showed that SOD mRNA expression significantly increased in Wi-Fi signal groups. The data showed that CDKN1A and GADD45a genes were increased in Wi-Fi groups (P-value<0.05). The quantitative PCR and the TUNEL assay showed that apoptosis increased in Wi-Fi groups (P-value<0.05). Conclusion: Our results provide evidence that Wi-Fi signals increase lipid peroxidation, SOD activity (oxidative stres), apoptosis and CDKN1A and GADD45a overexpression in mice placenta tissue. However, further experimental studies are warranted to investigate other genes and aspects of pregnancy to determine the role of Wi-Fi radiation on fertility and pregnancy.

DNA-Repair Capacity in Down\'s Syndrome
Down's syndrome (DS) is the most common chromosomal abnormality in human. Subjects with DS are known to be peridisposed to develop leukemia. The molecular basis of the association between DS and leukemia is unknown. The unscheduled DNA synthesis (UDS) test measure the ability of DNA-repair in mammalian cells after excision of a stretch of DNA containing the region of damage induced by chemical ...

3D printing and printed electronics are combined to demonstrate the feasibility of printing electrically functional RF devices. A combined process is used to demonstrate the feasibility of fabricating a 2.4 GHz antenna in a fully-3D printed object. Both dielectric, which also serves as the structure, and conductors are printed. Full-wave models are generated using Ansoft HFSS. Real-world tests ...

Fiber to the Rooms paradigm is gaining a lot of attention recently. In this paradigm, the last mile wireless (viz., IEEE 802.11x) connectivity, backed by optical fiber infrastructure, supports uncompressed high data rate while rendering seamless mobility and higher frequency reuse. To provide cost effective solution, Access Points (AP) in each room are replaced by distributed antennas. A centra...
متن کاملEffect of Microwave Wi-Fi Radiation at Frequency of 2.4 GHz on Epileptic Behavior of Rats
Background: Electromagnetic fields (EMF) with different intensities are widely used at home, offices and public places.Today, there is a growing global concern about the effects of human exposure to EMFs. Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological diseases, affecting 50 million people of all ages worldwide. We aimed to investigate the effect of exposure to Wi-Fi radiation on epilep...

OBJECTIVE In today's world, 2.45-GHz radio-frequency radiation (RFR) from industrial, scientific, medical, military and domestic applications is the main part of indoor-outdoor electromagnetic field exposure. Long-term effects of 2.45-GHz Wi-Fi radiation on male reproductive system was not known completely. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the major cause of male infertility during sh...
متن کاملPassive Wi-Fi Link Capacity Estimation on Commodity Access Points
Wi-Fi is the preferred way of accessing the internet for many devices at home, but it is vulnerable to performance problems. In this work, we propose a method to estimate the link capacity of a Wi-Fi link using physical layer metrics passively sampled on commodity access points. We build a model that predicts the maximum UDP throughput a device can sustain, which extends previous models to cons...
